There’s no doubt that Oprah Winfrey has considerable influence over her millions of viewers. She has declared today National No Phone Zone Day and will continue her drive to get people to put down their cell phones when driving.
The talk-show host is teaming with the Governors Highway Safety Association to promote the issue.
“When Oprah speaks, people listen,” GHSA spokesman Jonathan Adkins told USA Today. “In this case, when Oprah speaks, we expect people to put down the phone while driving.”
“The Oprah Winfrey Show” will feature Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm in Detroit signing legislation that will ban texting while driving. There also will be viewing rallies in Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Winfrey will also talk to families affected by distracted driving.
More than 220,000 people have signed Oprah’s No Phone Zone pledge, which was launched in January. Will you sign the pledge? Tell us in the comment section below.
